I think but am not 100% sure the difference between an 88 and 97 is the frame on a 97 is boxed and 88 is open (C shaped). Usually when raw oil is coming out the exhaust it means oil is not being burned in the combustion chamber and lead to oil leaking AFTER the combustion chamber i.e. turbo problems. Now if you are low on oil and its blue smoke then 99% its the injector o rings.
