I now have three separate components in my high-quality stereo system (though some would call it "mid-fi") that can play audio CDs: a NAD C541i CD player, a Pioneer PDR-609 CD recorder, and a cheap Panasonic DVD player. I use Sony Music CDR. I normally use TDK, but for some reason, they are not available at the stores I shop at.The media for a commercial CD is completely different from a recordable CD. It could be your player is having a harder time reading it and the bumps are throwing it over the edge. Some older players really struggle with CD-Rs. The CDs that skip will skip every time, but not necessarily at the same point in the audio each time it's played. To get this out of the way, it is absolutely 100% not the fault of the skipping CDs.
